A useful fan enquiry describes the duty, the gas, the site and the supply scope. A model number or airflow figure on its own rarely gives a supplier enough information for a reliable proposal.
Performance data
Provide the design airflow and required pressure, with units. State whether the pressure is static or total and where it is measured. For a system with several operating modes, list the normal, maximum, minimum and emergency points separately.
A duct drawing, equipment resistance schedule or existing fan nameplate can save several rounds of questions.
Gas and site conditions
Describe what the fan will move: clean air, humid air, dust, smoke or process gas. Give both normal and maximum temperatures. For dust, include concentration, particle size, abrasiveness, stickiness and any explosion risk. For corrosive gas, list the main components and concentrations.
Site altitude and ambient temperature affect air density and motor cooling. Also state whether the fan will be indoors or outdoors.
Installation and electrical details
Include the mounting position, airflow direction, available space, connection sizes and maintenance access. Roof-mounted equipment needs curb and weather details. Jet fans need clearances and nearby obstruction information.
For the motor, provide voltage, frequency, phase, starting method and VFD requirements. Add any specified enclosure, efficiency or monitoring requirements.
Commercial scope and documents
List quantity, destination, delivery point, target date and packing requirements. Identify any required drawings, test reports, material certificates, inspection documents, spare parts or destination-country approvals at the RFQ stage.
