Airflow and pressure define the duty
A fan curve plots the pressure a fan can produce at different airflow rates for a defined speed, impeller and air density. The operating point is where the fan curve intersects the system resistance curve.
Static pressure and total pressure are not interchangeable. Confirm which value the project schedule uses and whether outlet velocity pressure is included.
Check efficiency and motor power
Selection near the efficient region can reduce energy use, noise and mechanical stress. Motor power should cover absorbed power at the intended duty, air density and control range without relying on excessive safety margin.
- Fan speed and impeller diameter
- Air density or test condition
- Efficiency at the operating point
- Absorbed power and motor rating
- Sound data and allowable operating range
Correct for actual conditions
Temperature, altitude and gas composition change density and therefore affect pressure and power. Ask for corrected performance when conditions differ materially from standard air.
