Calculate the required exhaust duty
Air changes per hour can provide an initial estimate, but heat release, contaminant generation, building height and local exhaust systems may require a more detailed calculation. Define whether the fan handles normal ventilation, smoke exhaust or both.
Provide replacement air
An exhaust fan cannot deliver its rated volume if the building cannot admit enough make-up air. Check doors, louvers and supply fans, then estimate their pressure loss under operating conditions.
Coordinate the roof installation
Confirm roof opening, curb size, flashing, structural load, wind exposure, rain protection, backdraft damper, vibration isolation and safe maintenance access.
- Design airflow and pressure
- Roof type and curb dimensions
- Indoor and outdoor temperature
- Corrosion or explosion risk
- Noise limit and speed control
- Required fire or weather certification
